Three numbers live in your name

In the Pythagorean system each letter carries a value from 1 to 9 (A=1, B=2 … I=9, then J=1 again). Add every letter of your full birth name and you get your Expression number (also called the Destiny number) — the instrument you were issued: your native talents and working style. Add only the vowels and you get the Soul Urge, the private wanting underneath your choices. The consonants give the Personality number — the surface others meet first.

The letter Y is the classic trap: it counts as a vowel when it's doing a vowel's work (Lynn, Mary) and as a consonant when it isn't (Yolanda, Maya). Our calculator applies that rule letter by letter and shows you the raw totals, so you can check the math yourself.

Why your birth name?

Numerology treats the name on your birth certificate as the original blueprint.
